Read the encyclopedia on every company that actually makes the silicon — all 117 logos from one slide, in their original groupings. Ticks itself off as the reading log fills in.

A talk went past a slide called Not Just NVIDIA: The Real-World Chip Landscape — 117 logos, sorted into six boxes: the IC vendors, the tech giants with their own silicon, the IP vendors, the EDA vendors, sixty-three AI accelerator startups, and the five foundries who physically make all of it.

I could name maybe a fifth of them. So: read the article on every one.

The list is the slide, unedited — same groups, same order, duplicates kept where the slide repeats a company. What the slide can’t tell you is which of these the encyclopedia has even heard of. Resolving the roster answered that, and the answer is the interesting part: 66 of 117 have an English Wikipedia article, and in the startup box it’s 14 of 63. The tier of the industry with the most companies is the tier with the least written about it.

The checklist below is wired to the reading log rather than to a button. A company ticks when its article hits 100% in lectio — nothing to mark off by hand, and no way to lie to myself about having “basically read” one.
